One Thing Remains the Same

I suffered through a tough week last week, not because of any one particular issue, but partially because McKay’s bookstore was closed all week for what they called renovations. McKay’s is where I generally go a couple of times a week to unplug a little while, so with it being out of commission, I was just out of luck. So, Monday morning. I went to see the newly “renovated” McKay’s bookstore. As I walked through the door, things looked the same, but then I discovered that what McKay’s calls renovation, I call reorganization. The music stuff was now downstairs, and the video and movie merchandise had been moved upstairs. Their branded items, which were formerly tucked away in a corner, are now front and center. So, the crux of all these renovations really came down to me having to wander all over the store looking for the items I used to know were located at a particular place. Since I normally only browse through the Christian and History sections with a quick glance through the movie section, on the way out, I used to be able to go to McKay’s and be in and out in just a few minutes. Not so much that day. I spent quite a lot of time, just looking for everything. McKay’s isn’t the only retailer that periodically “renovates” (aka moves stuff around so you have to hunt for it). Their purpose for doing so is so you can say “huh, I didn’t know McKay’s sold used computers” or if you are in Kroger looking for a jar of spaghetti sauce which used to be on aisle eight, but now has disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle and while you are walking all over creation, looking for spaghetti sauce, you end up with a shopping cart full of Wam-Wams and ZuZus that you don’t need, but since you passed them in your search for spaghetti sauce, you decided you couldn’t live without them. Just when you get used to Windows 10 on your computer, Microsoft arbitrarily decides it is obsolete and comes out with Windows 11, then 12, then 13, forcing you to upgrade. Frankly, one of the things I like about our little local grocery store, Food Saver, is the fact that I can go through the door, straight to whatever it is I need, zip through the checkout line, and I’m out the door and on my way. I guess you could say, going to Food Saver is just, well, comfortable. Going to McKay’s used to be comfortable, and it will be again, just as soon as I learn where everything is, but yesterday, it was a bit disconcerting. It all comes down to the fact that I, as well as most other humans, am not a big fan of change. But in over sixty-one trips around the sun, one thing I have learned on my journey is that things change. Some of these changes are minor and others are major. Some changes don’t affect my life too much and are merely inconveniences, while others are huge life changers. Thanks for staying with me and reading about my McKay’s trip. Don’t get too stressed out about those changes in life. Just keep holding hands with Jesus and He will safely navigate all those changes and lead you safely home.
Be blessed and be a blessing . . . Bro. Andy
